Get Involved in the Year of the Manx Language

Blein ny Gaelgey / The Year of the Manx Language is now underway!

Blein ny Gaelgey / The Year of the Manx Language is now underway! 2026 presents the opportunity to celebrate and strengthen one of the Isle of Man’s most distinctive cultural assets, our Manx Language.

As a UNESCO Biosphere, our native language is a vital part of a healthy and resilient community. Supporting the Manx language strengthens our sense of place, identity, and belonging - values that underpin the Biosphere vision of people living well in balance with their environment and culture.

As part of this island-wide year of activity, the Jeebin Manx Language Network is hosting a series of free, informal drop-in sessions to help people learn more, ask questions and explore ways to get involved.

Taking place on Saturday mornings during January, the sessions are designed to be welcoming, friendly, and open to everyone - whether individuals, community groups or businesses.

All sessions run from 10am to noon, with the next session taking place in Port Erin Methodist Hall on Saturday 24th January. The third and final session will take place in Ramsey Town Hall on Saturday 31st January.

These sessions aim to inspire engagement in ways that suit different interests and levels of experience. For some, that might involve learning and speaking Manx; for others, it may simply be about understanding the language’s history, celebrating familiar words and phrases, or drawing creative inspiration from it. All these approaches help to keep the language living and relevant.
