Message from our Chairman

A message from Hon Howard Quayle MHK, Chief Minister of the Isle of Man and Chairman of UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man:

One of the great qualities of UNESCO Biospheres is that their populations work cohesively to find solutions to great challenges.

Our Biosphere Partners have all, without exception, been affected as Covid-19 brought life as we know it in the Isle of Man to a halt.

Yet you have set aside your own difficulties to play a significant role in the Island’s response to the virus.

From assisting the health service and the vulnerable in our community to showing innovation and entrepreneurship in your own areas, your efforts for our Island during this crisis have been humbling.

Right now, we have a long way to go in the fight against Covid-19.

But the qualities that were recognised by UNESCO in 2016, when the Isle of Man was admitted to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, will be all-important as we recover from these dark days.

We hope to celebrate the current achievements of our Biosphere Partners when the time is right to do so.

In the meantime, thank you for all you have done, and continue to do, for our Biosphere during this unprecedented situation.
