On Saturday 6th September, six adventurous members of the Biosphere Isle of Man Youth Network met bright and early at Ramsey Grammar School, ready to explore the Ramsey Hairpin Woodland Park alongside experts from the Manx Wildlife Trust.
Armed with curiosity, notebooks and ID tools like the iNaturalist app, the group spent the morning exploring the park’s ecosystems - spotting fungi, ferns, birds and beetles galore. The highlight of the day? A remarkable new record for the island: Puccinia veronicae, a rust fungus found on wood speedwell!
The event was part of a wider collaboration with other Biosphere youth networks across the UK and Ireland, all running their own BioBlitzes to celebrate our shared place in the global Biosphere family. Together, these discoveries help paint a richer picture of the biodiversity we’re all striving to protect.
The event provided a space for learning, connection, and fun!
