Prestigious farming and wildlife awards hosted by the Isle of Man

The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group's Silver Lapwing Award is to take place in the Isle of Man on 18 and 19 June.

The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG)’s Silver Lapwing Award is to take place in the Isle of Man Biosphere Reserve on 18 and 19 June, in  a two-day celebration of excellence in conservation farming across the British Isles.

Organised by the Isle of Man Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG IOM), longstanding Biosphere Partners, the award recognises farmers who integrate sustainable practices with a commitment to wildlife and habitats. The Isle of Man earned the honour of hosting after a landmark win in 2024 by local dairy farmers David and Rob Cooil of Ballagawne Farm – the first Manx recipients in the award’s 45-year history.

Ballagawne Farm in Ballabeg combines a grass-based dairy system with exceptional care for soil health, biodiversity and habitat management. Their forward-thinking approach earned them the local FWAG IOM Bronze Chough Award, before going on to impress the judges in the national competition and win the prestigious Silver Lapwing Trophy.

As tradition dictates, the winning region hosts the following year’s event – offering an opportunity for the Island to highlight its strong Biosphere values and showcase how Manx farming supports nature, climate action and food security.

The 2025 finalists, judges and guests will gather at Ballagawne Farm for the awards ceremony on Tuesday 18 June, including the Rawdon Hayne and Jenny Shepherd of Ballacosnahan Farm in Patrick, winners of the 2025 FWAG IOM Bronze Chough Award winners.

The visitors from all around the British Isles will also be treated to some great Manx hospitality, including a tour of Ballagawne Farm, exploring the peatland restoration work of the Peatland Partnership, and a celebration of Manx food, culture and community at a ceili.
