In our latest Partner Profile, we speak with IoD Isle of Man

IoD Isle of Man is a professional membership organisation. We form part of the international arm of the Institute of Directors.

The IoD has been at the heart of business since its formation in 1903. The Royal Charter, awarded in 1906, charged the IoD with promoting free enterprise, lobbying government and setting standards for corporate governance.

The Institute is a thriving membership community for directors and aspiring directors in the UK and beyond, where you can connect with other leaders develop your leadership skills and professional competence and influence policy.

Our motto is 'better directors for a better world'.

IoD Isle of Man has a strong community on the Island, with nearly 300 members, from students to Chartered Directors. We offer something for all through a variety of 'Connect', 'Develop' and 'Influence' opportunities.

Jennifer Houghton, Chair of IoD Isle of Man, said: 'We are lucky to live and work here and it has inspired me to be actively involved in the Island community on a number of levels. Sustainability is a core value for the IoD, including its commitment to biodiversity and the environment and IoD Isle of Man fully supports this ethos and so we are proud to be a Biosphere Isle of Man Partner.'

IoD Isle of Man recognises the importance of promoting ESG strategy and raising board awareness. It has organised a series of events dedicated to climate change and ESG, involving directors, business leaders, scientists and the finance community.

This works in parallel with the ‘Education’ element of UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man's 5Es strategy. It has also encouraged active engagement with the business community, working with those facing similar challenges and fuelling the desire for change.

The strategy aligns with the IoD policy on ESG which stipulates that companies should be urgently assessing whether their boards and executives have the necessary skills to oversee the transition, and to put in place measures and firm ambitions to evaluate the impacts posted by climate change to their operations.

With membership numbers growing and IoD Isle of Man aiming to continue as a vibrant, diverse and inclusive professional organisation #wheredirectorsaremade, we are confident that our status as a Biosphere Partner will support the Island’s business community in developing and delivering its own plans to successfully meet future sustainability goals.
