The newly appointed Biosphere Isle of Man Board met for the first time, on 24th June, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our Island’s Biosphere journey.
The board comprises 14 voluntary members from across our island community - including business, education, culture, youth, environment, policy and community life - and brings together a wealth of knowledge, experience and fresh thinking.
Chaired by Jason Bissell, the board will provide strategic oversight and help guide the Island through its 10-year periodic review, due to be submitted to UNESCO in 2026.
The first meeting took place at The Children’s Centre’s Wallberry Farm, generously hosted by Board member and CEO of the centre, Joff Whitten. The session provided an opportunity for members to connect, share perspectives, and explore the potential of the Biosphere as a unifying platform for positive change.
To spark discussions, members played REIMAGINING our Biosphere, a thought-provoking game created by Ali Hodgson which highlights the interconnectedness of people and planet. It encourages imaginative thinking for change, and creative approaches to sustainability. Some members also had a short tour and saw some of the brilliant work and sustainability initiatives happening at The Children’s Centre, who are a valued Biosphere Partner and Stakeholder.
Biosphere Isle of Man warmly welcomes the board and looks forward to the impact of their collective insight and commitment in the years ahead.
