Visit Website

Ballavolley Cottages is a holiday accommodation provider deeply committed to environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism. Nestled on the edge of the Ballaugh Curraghs Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI), the cottages are managed in partnership with DEFA to protect this nationally important wetland habitat and support local biodiversity.

Solar energy powers both the cottages and the owners’ home, complemented by energy-efficient systems such as LED lighting, timed heating, and thermostatic radiator valves. Water is carefully managed, eco-friendly products are used throughout, and single-use plastics are minimised wherever possible. An EV charger is also available for guests, encouraging low-impact travel around the Island.

The business supports the local economy by promoting Island attractions, sourcing supplies from local providers, and encouraging off-season tourism to provide year-round income for nearby shops and hospitality services. Wildlife is actively nurtured on the property, with owl and bat boxes, pesticide-free grounds, and hedgerow management fostering safe habitats. Guests are regularly treated to sightings of diverse birdlife and enjoy the natural beauty of a well-preserved dub (pond) on site.

Ballavolley Cottages engages with the local community through employment of local staff, collaboration with Island tradespeople, and sharing information about events and attractions. There are plans to install interpretive signage that educates guests about the ecological and cultural importance of the Ballaugh Curraghs.
