Since the 1830s, when the business began as the Douglas Gas Light Company, Isle of Man Energy has served with the Island with the cleanest of the fossil fuels.

Isle of Man Energy supplies the latest in energy-efficient boilers, and now also offers home energy management solutions from Hive and Tado, allowing customers more control over their heating and hot water and helping them to save energy and money.

The company is committed to supporting the Isle of Man achieve its Net Zero objectives; we are actively partnering with an environmental consultant to become more sustainable both in terms of what we do on a daily basis in our business, and with an eye to the future by investigating alternative fuels such as green hydrogen.

Isle of Man Energy is a keen supporter of community events on the Island, recently sponsoring the inaugural Great Manx Run which raised considerable sums of money for a number of local charities. The company encourages colleagues to take part in community projects and charitable events, and holds regular fundraising activities which have supported the Food Bank, Age Concern and Live at Home (among others).

We continue to minimise our environmental impact where we can, and examples include:

  • Reducing the need to dig on most mains replacement jobs
  • Reducing employees’ travel to our sister companies in the Channel Islands through use of Teams calls and video conferencing
  • Having a programme to replace company vehicles with more efficient models
  • Recycling of waste metals and batteries
  • Recycling confidential waste and ordinary office waste
  • Displaying the Biosphere Pledge on its staff noticeboard and showcases the Island’s beauty through photos, taken by staff, and displayed throughout the building.
