With buildings accounting for around 30% of our total greenhouse gas emissions, any small reduction in your energy usage and bills will also reduce the Isle of Man greenhouse gas emissions and help to maintain our Island as a special place to live, work and visit.
Tynwald has previously supported a target to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050 as described in the Climate Challenge Mitigation Strategy for the Isle of Man. Therefore, by 2050 our buildings should be close to zero emissions which will only be achieved by improving energy efficiency and substituting use of fossil fuels with sustainable alternatives.
To help with this transition the DEFA are working closely with Manx Utilities to offer free energy advice to all homeowners. DEFA are also assisting low-income households by providing free LED light bulbs and 75% grants for energy efficiency improvements.
