Zurich employs around 350 people on the Isle of Man. It is part of the Zurich Insurance Group, the global insurer and employee benefits solutions provider.

It’s history in the Isle of Man goes back over 40 years, and globally for more than 150 years.

Zurich House – the company’s HQ at Isle of Man Business Park – opened in 2018 and today it is still one of the most modern office buildings on the Island. The building is BREEAM accredited which means it was specifically designed with sustainability in mind, particularly in regard to efficient use of power and water.

Both locally and globally, Zurich has a longstanding commitment to sustainability which is  supported by a high-level of engagement from employees. The foundation of this commitment is based on a reducing the business’ carbon footprint, while also helping customers to manage the risks of climate change too.

Zurich’s mission is to create a brighter future together, and this inspires their Isle of Man team to explore innovative ways the business can have a positive impact as an insurer, investor, employer and in society.

Practical steps taken to reduce its Isle of Man carbon footprint include numerous initiatives to reduce energy, water and plastic usage, and increase recycling. This has inspired a cultural change within the business, and resulted in many employees taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint at home too.

Among many successful initiatives, two stand out:

·       A solar array (funded wholly by Zurich) which became operational in 2022 and now provides around half of the electricity used at Zurich House

·       The Sustainability At Home Scheme which offers interest free loans for Zurich’s Isle of Man employees which can be used to make their homes more energy efficient
