The Manx Herbalist teaches about sustainable practices in gathering plants and uses many herbs cultivated in her own garden. She uses recyclable containers in her remedies and her consumption of resources is small, recycling and reusing as much as possible.
The Manx Herbalist is passionate about our connection with our natural world and believes that deepening our understanding of healing herbs and the gifts that they offer us, as well as the wildlife that also depends on them, inspires us to respond with respect, care and love to our Biosphere.
The Manx Herbalist sources products locally where possible and wrote a dissertation about the traditional use of healing herbs in the IOM and so have a good understanding of the links between environment, culture and community.
The Manx Herbalist regularly runs events as part of Manx National Heritage's Manx Wildlife Week,
and ran joint workshops with creative writer Janet Lees, which explored the cultural importance of six Manx Herbs.
She has an interest in the folkloric traditions associated with healing herbs and encourages an awareness of their cultural significance in the past and going forward into the future.
The Manx Herbalist collaborates with the Manx Wildlife Trust, running joint events (Gardening for Wildlife), with future engagement planned. The teaching is largely focused around a positive environmental impact through greater awareness and engagement with the natural world. The Manx Herbalist leads herbal walks which point out native medicinal herbs as well as other plant species and wildlife.
The Manx Herbalist has a strong involvement with the local community through teaching, as well as offering advice, when requested, on projects such as community gardens
