St Thomas' Church is committed to sustainability, heritage, and community engagement. No herbicides are used on its grounds, which host the Dragonflies' Den initiative, with planters maintained by the Rainbows group. Volunteers care for pollinator-friendly plants monthly.

As a registered Eco-Church, St Thomas; actively reduces its environmental impact. It has received Net Zero Demonstrator Church funding and a Give to Go Green grant to support a transition to net zero, including plans for electric heating and renewable energy.

Culturally, the church showcases historical features, including Archibald Knox designs and Nicholson murals. Supported by an Arts Council grant, it offers visitor information banners and participates in guided tours, including for cruise ship guests.

The church fosters an incredible community spirit, hosting weekly coffee mornings, seasonal lunches, and free summer concerts. It has welcomed significant community events, including the Gaia art installation and Amnesty vigils. A new initiative, Café Hope, launches in April 2025, featuring sustainability-themed activities. Future building plans aim to enhance community spaces.

By integrating sustainability, heritage, and inclusivity, the church exemplifies the values of a UNESCO Biosphere Partner.
