Ramsey Town Commissioners provide a breadth of services and support to the residents and business owners of the Island’s largest town.

The Commissioners have implemented a number of initiatives in order to protect our natural resources, including; the installation of LED lighting in the Town Hall which includes passive sensors, the use of LED street lighting where possible and the replacement of fleet vehicles with electric ones, where is has been practical to do so.

The Commissioners have public water fountains in the Mooragh Park and Town Hall to discourage the buying of single-use plastic bottles; the fountains are also Refill stations and can be found by those on the move on the Refill Isle of Man App.

Ramsey Town has an array of independent, local businesses operating across many sectors thus supporting the Island’s economy in a sustainable way. The commissioners encourage the use of recycling and bring back facilities to further help the economy and protect our natural resources. The commissioners run competitions within the business community such as the ‘Festival of Christmas Trees’ and ‘Ramsey in Bling’, which not only gathers the community in a positive way but encourages more spending locally.

Ramsey Town Commissioners support and promote our cultural heritage through the use of Manx Gaelic where possible, such as the use of the native language in signage and on stationary. The commissioners have also supported Celtic festival events in the town and they often display cultural exhibitions in their Town Hall.

The Commissioners have trailed wild flower beds to encourage pollinators and make their environmental impact positive. They support the work of the Manx Wildlife Trust in order to protect and enhance their environmental assets. The Mooragh Park, a recreational green space, has had the Green Flag Award since 2019 which signifies an international mark of quality in green spaces.

Ramsey Town Commissioners engage with the local community on a regular basis and run multiple competitions throughout the year for all to be involved in. They encouraged local artists to apply to be a community artist and transform the shelters on Mooragh Promenade to create imaginative, stimulating and creative public art. Their website details information of upcoming events and they have recently created a Community Warm Space at Ramsey Library to help those in vulnerable positions through the cost of living crisis.
