The Isle of Man Lighthouses Challenge is a friendly cycling event around the Island’s coastline for participants of all abilities, which takes place annually.
Cycling is an important part of the Isle of Man’s culture and heritage and the event will assist the economy by attracting media coverage and participants from off-Island.
Pre-event marketing will promote the benefits of cycling as an environmentally friendly way to travel and there is an event category for electric bikes.
Supporters will be discouraged from following competitors in motor vehicles.
Event organisers will use minimal paper and will move to a fully digital entry system and electronic rider information packs.
They will use solely reusable plastics, including cable ties for signage. Feed stations will use solely recyclable crockery, with waste sorted and recycled accordingly. Water will be sourced from a local company in recyclable containers rather than from plastic bottles.
Littering will be discouraged and a team will check the route post-event and clear up any litter.
The non-competitive nature of the challenge means participants will be able to stop and enjoy the coastal views and nature en route round.
The event organisers are partnering with organisations that share their values, including title sponsor Zurich, a fellow Biosphere Partner.
The event will raise money for the charity Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man, with all money raised match funded by Zurich’s charitable foundation. A prize draw will offer an e-bike as a prize.
