As a proud Biosphere Partner, the Comis Hotel & Golf Resort continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability with their latest initiative: the Comis Bug Hotel & Wildflower Resort.
In line with the core pledges made by all Biosphere Partners, The Comis has rewilded half an acre of its golf course to create a flourishing wildflower habitat.
The new wildflower garden transforms what was once a standard grassy area into a thriving ecosystem, offering food and shelter to pollinators like bees and butterflies, as well as benefiting birds and small mammals. This biodiversity boost not only enhances the environment but also supports the island’s wider climate goals. By reducing the need for mowing and use of fertilisers, the project cuts emissions and improves soil and air quality - directly contributing to a healthier planet.
Adding to the environmental benefits is the educational partnership with Kewaigue Primary School. Pupils were given ownership of the project, with each year group managing a section of the garden. From preparing the soil to sowing seeds, children gained hands-on experience in conservation, supported by a session of classroom learning at the resort about biodiversity and pollinators. A handcrafted bug hotel, made from natural materials, now serves as a sanctuary for beneficial insects, further enriching the ecosystem.
The project also enhances the guest experience, with seasonal wildflower displays offering a scenic and tranquil addition to the resort. As travellers increasingly seek out eco-conscious destinations, The Comis’ efforts highlight how sustainable practices can elevate both environmental impact and visitor satisfaction.
By involving the community and nurturing the next generation’s environmental awareness, the Comis continues to lead by example as a Biosphere partner - proving that sustainability, business and hospitality can go hand in hand.
