Under The Sea

Visit Website

Under The Sea is a small business founded in 2020 by Lydia who creates art and jewellery inspired by the Isle of Man, repurposing discarded pieces of sea glass in some of her work.

Whilst walking the beach to find washed up sea glass, Lydia also collects any plastics, fishing gear and general rubbish that has been washed ashore. Collecting other peoples rubbish has made Lydia more conscious of the waste she produces and now recycles as much waste as possible, where appropriate, at home and as part of her business. Any packing from goods is repurposed and used to protect her products when they are sent to customers.

The Island’s community and heritage plays heavily within Under The Sea’s brand image, with the products sold allowing customers to own their own piece of the Isle of Man.

Through Under The Sea’s social media channels, Lydia shares and promotes the Isle of Man and personal heritage based stories from her relatives who have played instrumental roles within their communities throughout the years. Lydia also shares projects run by local businesses on her social channels that she thinks are beneficial, such as the ‘fill a fish’ project run earlier in 2021.

Lydia was invited into a local primary school to help them make their own pieces of art and help to engage the children about the importance of not dropping litter. Unfortunately this was cancelled due to restrictions but this is something she would like to pursue.
