NK Construction Ltd are a local construction company who advocate sustainable development and strive to protect our natural resources. They operate a waste segregation policy, where all waste generated from construction sites is recycled or reduced where possible. They are looking to implement the use of the BRE SMARTWaste application to assist with recycling and recording data for the same – this will be initially trialled on the Former Nurses Home Site on Westmoreland Road. There is an EV Charger installed at the Head Office from which the company are running three electric vehicles with a view to expand the fleet in future. They have also installed light detection units within the premises to save power.
NK Construction are playing a part in developing the economy in a sustainable way. Their Managing Director is a Board Member and Director of Construction IOM, where he represents the local Construction Industry and the benefits that a healthy Construction Sector has to the Island and its economy. One of his roles on the Board is on the training sub-committee, where he is influential in planning the training for both practical and Health and Safety courses. The main remit at this time is to undertake a full review of the Island’s apprenticeship schemes, conferring with fellow industry representatives and Government bodies.
NK Construction believe in sustainable living and promote this through their designs and the running of their construction sites. On social media they promote these sites to give the public an insight to constructing buildings to an AECB Standard (Association for Environment Conscious Buildings) and they try to demonstrate that this can be implemented in the private sector.
NK Construction undertake bird and bat surveys prior to any works being carried out to ensure The Wildlife Act 1990 is adhered to and they have encouraged the designers to incorporate bird and bat boxes within the buildings being constructed.
