Kensington Arts is a venue run by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture that organises activities for young people aged between eight and 18 to support and develop creative expression. These include weekly classes, workshops and projects.
Formerly the Youth Arts Centre, the venue includes a 130-seat theatre, a dance studio, art room, band practice rooms and a recording studio.
The centre also inspires young people to consider and care for the environment through education and engaging them in practical activities.
Housed in an historic building, the original Douglas School of Art, the centre’s infrastructure is being upgraded to meet modern standards for energy efficiency, lighting, air quality, etc.
The centre considers sustainability when purchasing goods and services.
The centre aims to reduce, reuse and recycle, cutting the amount of waste it disposes of, lowering energy use, removing single-use plastic where possible and conserving water.
It also hopes to arrange community clean-ups and other environmentally-friendly events.
Promoting culture and heritage is at the heart of the centre’s work and it works closely with schools and colleges, Isle of Man Arts Council, Manx National Heritage and Culture Vannin on events, programmes, workshops and training.
