The Church of England, Diocese of Sodor and Man consists of 38 Churches and communities across the Island, all of whom are committed to the care of Creation.
When you visit a church, you will find a preserved area of nature. With beautiful wildflowers, natural corridors in urban areas and safe havens for nature, with some extremely rare bird species, fungus and lichen. The Diocese has challenged each church to adopt two habitats or species to nurture and champion. From frogs to woodland, stoats to fungus, bees to grassland. Whilst each of our Churches and Congregations is unique, and focused on their local community, we are equally conscious of being part of something bigger: the Island and the globe - and have the following commitments:
As members of the Diocese of Sodor and Man, we affirm:
- That it is our duty to care for all creation.
- We stand, act and celebrate together, the awe and majesty of creation.
- We believe that caring for creation is an extension of loving our neighbour. As climate change alters and threatens eco systems, environments and habitats our global neighbours are suffering and thereby further exacerbating injustice.
- We cherish and nurture our “gem of God’s earth” (Arrane Ashoonagh dy Vannin "O Land of our Birth"), 1907 William Henry Gill. As an “Island so fair”, we are firmly rooted in all creation.
Our Diocese Vision is to:
