Ørsted is a renewable energy company working with the Isle of Man government to develop the Island’s first offshore wind farm – Mooir Vannin. The project will help support the Island’s ambitious renewable energy, net-zero, and economic growth targets.

The development of Mooir Vannin involves a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) which assesses the impact of the project on the natural and social environment and identifies mitigation measures to reduce any potential impacts.

Ørsted is also putting forward a Biodiversity Strategy to ensure the project has a net-positive impact on the local ecosystem, aiming to leave the marine environment in a better condition than it was found in.

Ørsted’s commitment to the local Island community is reflected in its sponsorship of cultural and educational events, such as the RNLI Gala Dinners, the Gaia exhibit, and Bushy’s TT Village. The company is also actively engaging with local government and the community through initiatives like CleanTech Forum 2023, Biosphere Sustainable Mann workshops, and community consultation events.

Ørsted has conducted extensive environmental studies, including seabed and wildlife surveys, and is preparing to submit its planning application in early 2025. The company’s involvement with the Isle of Man’s UNESCO Biosphere status ensures that environmental objectives are met, and Ørsted’s voluntary Biodiversity Strategy further reinforces its commitment to leaving a positive legacy. Community engagement remains central, with ongoing consultations, educational campaigns, and event sponsorships that foster public involvement and understanding of the project’s goals.
