Okell’s Brewery was founded in 1850 and is a Manx beer brewer.

Okell’s have installed various methods to reduce their water, electricity and fuel use on site. All post rinse water is re-used as pre rinse in the brewing process, and they have implemented a ‘one wash down per day’ policy. They have reduced the working hours of their steam generator by 50% and the spent grain is donated to local farmers for cattle feed.

Okell’s have plans to develop the Island’s first beverage canning plant. This will eliminate the need for producers in the local drinks sector to ship products off Island for packaging which are then returned to sell, ultimately reducing carbon emissions.

The company founder, William Okell, created the Manx Pure Beer Act in 1874. This unique act is still enforced to this day, meaning all Manx brewers can only use 4 ingredients when making beer: water, malt, sugar and hops.

At their Kewaigue site, Okell’s have recently undergone a fruit tree planting initiative in which staff are encouraged to harvest and enjoy the fruit. They also have a cycle to work scheme and 25% of the brewing department 'park and walk' to work.

Okell’s are actively involved in the Manx community. They make product donations to Manx MTB Enduro club, they sponsor FC Isle of Man for several game days per season and they offer annual support to the Isle of Man Young Farmers. Over the festive period Okell’s partnered with the police to promote a 'fuel up with Zero' campaign in a bid to tackle drink driving over Christmas.
