Young Nature Writer 2023

Young Nature Writer is run in conjunction with Manx Wildlife Trust, Manx Ornithological Society and the Isle of Man Examiner and invites people aged 21 and under to write up to 500 words on their favourite creatures or habitats or their love of nature.

    Television presenter, scientist and president of The Wildlife Trusts Liz Bonnin has this message to would-be entrants.

  • 2023 competition

    If you are 21 and under, you are invited to write up to 500 words, and illustrate this if you wish, on the topic of nature in the Isle of Man. You can write about a favourite species or spot, how you enjoy connecting with nature and how it makes you feel, etc. Find out more here.

  • Taking part

    Simply email your entry to Biosphere@gov.im marking it 'Young Nature Writer 2023' and be sure to include your name, age and contact details. Ask your parent/carer for help sending it in if needed. If you embed photos into your entry, please save the originals as we'll need them if you win.

  • Closing date

    The closing date is 5th September 2023, so you have all spring and summer to get out into nature and write about it.

  • Judging

    Judging will be carried out by representatives of UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man, Manx Wildlife Trust, Manx Ornitholgical Society and Isle of Man Examiner. Winners will be invited to a prize presentation in autumn 2023.

  • Publicity

    Winners and runners up will be expected to take part in publicity we'll provide to newspapers, magazines and radio and on social media, including the publication of names and photos.
